Where is the line between harassment and having a thick skin?

On September 22, 2010 Rutgers student Tyler Clementi posted on his Facebook "Jumping off the GW bridge sorry." This was posted 3 days after Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei placed a camera in Clementi's room and live streamed a recording online of Clementi having supposedly gay sex in his dorm room. Both Ravi and Wei have been charged with two counts each of invasion of privacy after allegedly telling all of Clementi’s online friends to watch the video.  “Under New Jersey's invasion-of-privacy statutes, it is a fourth degree crime to collect or view images depicting nudity or sexual contact involving another individual without that person's consent, and it is a third degree crime to transmit or distribute such images. The penalty for conviction of a third degree offense can include a prison term of up to five years.”  Aaron Katasky wrote. With the internet and technology at its highest peak in the 21st century spreading information can take only a matter of seconds, and destroy someone’s life even faster.
In my opinion Tyler Clementi over reacted to a minor situation, although it seems as if this whole future is ruined because his potential bosses might see these videos, his chances of landing a successful job were still very high. He should have confronted his roommate as he posted the videos, and settled it at that moment. I don’t think bullying is a major issue, especially not at my high school. If someone is getting bullied in my mind they probably deserved it; if they didn’t deserve it then they need to stick up for themselves and break some noses. The only way to get a bully off your back is to get onto his, and if there is a large size difference…well the solution is simple. Get bigger friends.
